Positive Behaviour Support / De-escalation, start to finish.
This module teaches you how to support residents who display behaviours that challenge, using positive approaches to prevent distress and de-escalate situations safely. You will learn how to recognise triggers, respond calmly, and follow your organisation's policies on managing antisocial behaviour while protecting everyone's dignity and safety. This is the same module CareStream subscribers get, written for care settings rather than adapted from a generic course. It runs about 48 minutes and ends with a 30 question assessment.
- Understanding Behaviour as Communication
All behaviour communicates something.
- Recognising Early Warning Signs and Triggers
Prevention is better than crisis response.
- Positive Behaviour Support Principles
Positive Behaviour Support focuses on improving quality of life and teaching new skills rather than just controlling behaviour.
- De-escalation Techniques That Work
When a resident is becoming distressed or agitated, use these de-escalation techniques: stay calm and speak in a low, steady voice; give the person space and do not crowd them; use open, non-threatening body language; listen actively and acknowledge their feelings; offer simple choices to give back some control; remove triggers if possible; and distract or redirect gently if appropriate.
- When Behaviour Becomes Antisocial
Antisocial behaviour is defined as conduct causing harassment, alarm or distress to others, or capable of causing nuisance or annoyance.
- Reporting, Recording and Safeguarding
You must report and record all incidents of challenging or antisocial behaviour, even if they were successfully de-escalated.
- Restrictive Practice and the Least-Restrictive Approach
Restrictive practice is anything that limits a person's freedom of movement or choice.
- After an Incident: Debriefing, Learning and Behaviour Support Plans
After any incident, your first job is to check that everyone is safe: the person, other residents and staff.

What your team will be able to do.

What staff come away with
All behaviour communicates something. Always try to understand what unmet need the person is expressing before labelling behaviour as a problem.
Recognise early warning signs and triggers so you can intervene gently before situations escalate. Prevention is better than crisis response.
Use positive behaviour support principles: treat people with dignity, understand the function of behaviour, change environments to reduce triggers, and reinforce positive behaviour.
De-escalate tense situations by staying calm, speaking in a low steady voice, giving space, listening, acknowledging feelings, and offering choices.
Antisocial behaviour that causes harassment, alarm or distress to others must be reported and may be treated as a breach of contract, safeguarding concern or even a crime.
Always document incidents, report concerns following your organisation's procedures, and work as a team with consistent approaches to support residents and protect everyone's safety and wellbeing.

Before you buy.
How long does Positive Behaviour Support / De-escalation training take?
About 48 minutes, across 8 short lessons, followed by a 30 question assessment with a pass mark of 80%. Staff can stop and pick up where they left off.
What does the Positive Behaviour Support / De-escalation module cover?
8 lessons: Understanding Behaviour as Communication, Recognising Early Warning Signs and Triggers, Positive Behaviour Support Principles, De-escalation Techniques That Work, When Behaviour Becomes Antisocial, Reporting, Recording and Safeguarding, Restrictive Practice and the Least-Restrictive Approach and After an Incident: Debriefing, Learning and Behaviour Support Plans. Each one pairs the teaching with a care scenario and a quick check.
How often do staff need to refresh Positive Behaviour Support / De-escalation?
CareStream sets this module so it renews every year. Staff and managers are reminded before a certificate lapses, so the refresher is booked before the gap appears.
Does Positive Behaviour Support / De-escalation need a practical assessment?
Yes. The online module is the knowledge part. Staff also need an observed assessment in the workplace, carried out by their employer, and CareStream provides the observation checklist to record it.
Do I need a CareStream subscription to buy this?
No. This page exists precisely so you do not. You buy the licences you need, your staff complete the module in the CareStream hub, and that is the end of it. There is no trial to start, no card kept on file, and no subscription that begins quietly afterwards.
If you later decide you want the full platform, anything your staff have already completed carries across into your account.
What does one licence actually cover?
One licence covers one named member of staff for this one module, including the lesson, the assessment, any follow-up questions triggered by a wrong answer, and their certificate. Licences are not shared between people, because the completion record has to belong to an individual to be worth anything at inspection.
How quickly can staff start?
Immediately. The licences are on your account as soon as the payment clears, and staff get their invite the moment you add them. There is no onboarding call and no setup period.
Can staff complete it in another language?
Yes. Each staff member has a first language on their profile, and the lesson, the questions and the feedback all arrive in it. They answer in that language too. What you see as a manager stays in English, so the record reads the same whoever completed it.
What if someone fails the assessment?
Nothing is lost. A wrong answer triggers a short follow-up lesson on that specific point, and they retry it. The record shows the improvement from the first attempt to the latest, which is stronger evidence than a single pass mark, because it shows the gap was found and closed.
Can I buy for more than one service?
Yes. Buy the total number of licences you need and allocate them across your services when you add staff. If you are licensing for a group and want an invoice rather than a card payment, get in touch and we will raise one.
Licence any of these the same way.
Same price, same terms, no subscription needed.
