The scan
How long does a scan take?
Minutes for the scan itself. The time is in reviewing what it found, which is the part that should not be rushed.
Does it change our policies?
No. It proposes, you decide. Nothing is published without an explicit approval step.
What if we disagree with a finding?
Reject it. Rejections are remembered so the same suggestion does not come back every scan.

Does it know our service type?
Yes, the expected set differs for residential, nursing, domiciliary and the rest, and the scan uses the right one.
Will it find gaps in a policy, or only missing policies?
Both. A policy that exists but does not cover a required area is reported as thin rather than missing.

A complete guide to running a policy gap analysis
A gap analysis is not an audit of the policies you have. It is a search for the ones you do not, which is a harder problem, because nothing in your folder points at an absence. This guide sets out a method you can run by hand with a spreadsheet and a fortnight, and what changes when you automate it.
Start from the expected set, not from your folder
The instinct is to open your policy folder and work through it. That method can only ever confirm what you already have. Start instead from the list of what a service like yours is expected to hold, then check each item off against your library.
Getting that expected list right is most of the work. It varies by service type and by what you actually do, so a nursing home providing end of life care holds policies a residential home does not.
Three kinds of gap
Missing is the obvious one: no policy exists. Thin is more common and more dangerous, where a policy exists and passes a folder check but does not cover a required area. Stale is the third, where the policy covers the area but describes a practice, a role or a threshold that no longer applies.
