Care Certificate, start to finish.
This annual refresher revisits all 16 Care Certificate standards updated in March 2025. Work through each standard in order. This is the same module CareStream subscribers get, written for care settings rather than adapted from a generic course. It runs about 90 minutes and ends with a 32 question assessment.
- Standard 1: Understand your role
Your role is defined by your job description, your agreed ways of working, and the standards and codes that apply to care work, including the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers and Adult Social Care Workers.
- Standard 2: Your personal development
Care work changes: guidance is updated, people's needs change, and your own role develops.
- Standard 3: Duty of care
Duty of care is your legal and professional obligation to act in the best interests of the people you support, to keep them safe from harm, and to act within your competence.
- Standard 4: Equality, diversity, inclusion and human rights
This standard was strengthened in March 2025 to add inclusion and human rights explicitly.
- Standard 5: Work in a person-centred way
Person-centred values put the individual at the centre of everything: individuality, independence, privacy, partnership, choice, dignity, respect and rights.
- Standard 6: Communication
People communicate in many ways: speech, tone, facial expression, body language, touch, behaviour, writing, pictures and technology.
- Standard 7: Privacy and dignity
Privacy is a person's right to control who sees them, their body, their space and their information.
- Standard 8: Fluids and nutrition
Good nutrition and hydration protect health, wound healing, energy, mood and dignity.
- Standard 9: Awareness of mental health and dementia
Since March 2025 this standard focuses on mental health and dementia, with learning disability and autism moved to its own standard 16.
- Standard 10: Adult safeguarding
Adult safeguarding means protecting an adult's right to live in safety, free from abuse and neglect.
- Standard 11: Safeguarding children
Even in adult services, children are part of the picture: they visit relatives, they accompany families, some staff work across settings, and the people you support may have contact with children in the community.
- Standard 12: Basic life support
This standard requires practical training that meets UK Resuscitation Council guidelines, refreshed regularly and assessed face to face: this online section refreshes the knowledge that underpins your practical certificate, it does not replace it.
- Standard 13: Health and safety
The Health and Safety at Work etc.
- Standard 14: Handling information
The information you handle, care plans, daily notes, medication records, messages from families, is sensitive personal data protected by the Data Protection Act 2018 and UK GDPR, and governed by your agreed ways of working.
- Standard 15: Infection prevention and control
Infection needs a chain to spread: an infectious agent, a reservoir, a way out, a mode of transmission, a way in, and a susceptible person.
- Standard 16: Awareness of learning disability and autism
This is the new standard added in March 2025, and it reflects a legal requirement: all staff in CQC regulated services must undertake training in how to interact appropriately with people with a learning disability and autistic people, at a level appropriate to their role, with the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training the government's preferred package.

How long does Care Certificate training take?
About 90 minutes, across 16 short lessons, followed by a 32 question assessment with a pass mark of 80%. Staff can stop and pick up where they left off.
What does the Care Certificate module cover?
16 lessons: Standard 1: Understand your role, Standard 2: Your personal development, Standard 3: Duty of care, Standard 4: Equality, diversity, inclusion and human rights, Standard 5: Work in a person-centred way, Standard 6: Communication, Standard 7: Privacy and dignity, Standard 8: Fluids and nutrition, Standard 9: Awareness of mental health and dementia, Standard 10: Adult safeguarding, Standard 11: Safeguarding children, Standard 12: Basic life support, Standard 13: Health and safety, Standard 14: Handling information, Standard 15: Infection prevention and control and Standard 16: Awareness of learning disability and autism. Each one pairs the teaching with a care scenario and a quick check.
How often do staff need to refresh Care Certificate?
This module is completed once rather than renewed on a cycle. Refresh it when your policy changes or a staff member moves into a role where it matters more.
Does Care Certificate need a practical assessment?
Yes. The online module is the knowledge part. Staff also need an observed assessment in the workplace, carried out by their employer, and CareStream provides the observation checklist to record it.
Do I need a CareStream subscription to buy this?
No. This page exists precisely so you do not. You buy the licences you need, your staff complete the module in the CareStream hub, and that is the end of it. There is no trial to start, no card kept on file, and no subscription that begins quietly afterwards.
If you later decide you want the full platform, anything your staff have already completed carries across into your account.
What does one licence actually cover?
One licence covers one named member of staff for this one module, including the lesson, the assessment, any follow-up questions triggered by a wrong answer, and their certificate. Licences are not shared between people, because the completion record has to belong to an individual to be worth anything at inspection.
How quickly can staff start?
Immediately. The licences are on your account as soon as the payment clears, and staff get their invite the moment you add them. There is no onboarding call and no setup period.
Can staff complete it in another language?
Yes. Each staff member has a first language on their profile, and the lesson, the questions and the feedback all arrive in it. They answer in that language too. What you see as a manager stays in English, so the record reads the same whoever completed it.
What if someone fails the assessment?
Nothing is lost. A wrong answer triggers a short follow-up lesson on that specific point, and they retry it. The record shows the improvement from the first attempt to the latest, which is stronger evidence than a single pass mark, because it shows the gap was found and closed.
Can I buy for more than one service?
Yes. Buy the total number of licences you need and allocate them across your services when you add staff. If you are licensing for a group and want an invoice rather than a card payment, get in touch and we will raise one.
Licence any of these the same way.
Same price, same terms, no subscription needed.
